{"id":967,"date":"2012-09-13T11:22:11","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T11:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/?p=967"},"modified":"2013-03-13T16:07:47","modified_gmt":"2013-03-13T16:07:47","slug":"my-top-100-88-enter-the-matrix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/?p=967","title":{"rendered":"My Top 100: #88 &#8211; Enter the Matrix"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_974\" style=\"width: 571px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/EtM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-974\" class=\" wp-image-974\" title=\"EtM\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/EtM.jpg\" width=\"561\" height=\"813\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2003 &#8211; GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC (Shiny, WB Interactive)<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-dt\">Here&#8217;s another game on the list that was panned by critics, but gets my thumbs up!\u00a0 Yeah, it could be glitchy, and it was a bit repetitive&#8230;\u00a0 but dammit, it was <em>cool<\/em>!!!<\/p>\n<p>The Wachowskis wanted 2003 to be the year of <em>The Matrix<\/em>, apparently.\u00a0 The much-hyped <em>Reloaded <\/em>was released in mid-May, with <em>The Animatrix<\/em> and <em>Enter the Matrix<\/em> released pretty much that same week;\u00a0 the second sequel, <em>Revolutions<\/em>, was to be released that November, with the MMO <em>The Matrix Online <\/em>to be released shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, it was a sm\u00f6rg\u00e5sbord of platforms to tell\u00a0a\u00a0story with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Sm\u00f6rg\u00e5sbord:\u00a0 a type of\u00a0Scandinavian meal served buffet-style with multiple dishes of various foods on a table, originating in Sweden.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QQITNRegxwk\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We had seen slow-motion &#8220;bullet-time&#8221; in gaming before, most notably in <em>Max Payne<\/em>.\u00a0 The idea behind that game, however, was\u00a0probably in response to the popular\u00a0slow-motion effects in that first <em>Matrix <\/em>movie.\u00a0 It was time for the\u00a0new kings\u00a0of\u00a0slow-mo to have a gaming go at it.<\/p>\n<p>I loved how the game really felt like it had a place in the franchise; on one hand, you had Don Davis&#8217; soundtrack to get you pumped, and on the other, you could activate the slow-mo and pull off some ridiculous action moves.\u00a0 No, you weren&#8217;t Neo, but Niobe and Ghost could hang right there with him in terms of fighting and shooting skills.<\/p>\n<p>I never tinkered with it too much, but there was also a complex &#8220;hacking&#8221; portion to the game.\u00a0 If you dug deep enough, you could unlock all kinds of things.<\/p>\n<p>This was one of two games I purchased with my Xbox console during that\u00a0summer of 2003, along with <em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic<\/em>.\u00a0 It was one of\u00a0my first big purchases after getting\u00a0my first\u00a0&#8220;real&#8221; job that previous winter, and I&#8217;ll always love this game because it was my first experience on the new-to-me console.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_982\" style=\"width: 863px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/dash1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-982\" class=\"size-full wp-image-982\" title=\"dash1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/dash1.jpg\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/dash1.jpg 853w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/dash1-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-982\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The green of the Matrix code always reminds me of the green from the Xbox Dashboard, which was pretty damn snazzy.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s another game on the list that was panned by critics, but gets my thumbs up!\u00a0 Yeah, it could be glitchy, and it was a bit repetitive&#8230;\u00a0 but dammit, it was cool!!!
