After watching\u00a0Tuesday’s\u00a0Nintendo Direct, I finally felt vindicated.\u00a0 I finally felt that my spur-of-the-moment decision to buy a WiiU had paid off.<\/p>\n
Seeing footage of Super Mario 3D World<\/em>, Mario Kart 8<\/em>, and\u00a0The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD <\/em>was a breath of fresh air.\u00a0 Sure, the graphics I had seen during the Microsoft and Sony conferences were quite jaw-dropping, but they were so… gray<\/em>.\u00a0 Dark, gritty and realistic can be cool and all, but sometimes, you just need a change of pace.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For example, I’d pay to see this!<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n Part of what has drawn me back to Nintendo\u00a0time and time again is the colour.\u00a0 If I’m ever feeling grumpy, I can usually count on Mario or Link to cheer me up with their flashy disposition.\u00a0 Sure, I can get some measure of satisfaction\u00a0by killing Nazis or zombies or whatever.\u00a0 It’s just a different kind of satisfaction, altogether.<\/p>\n In any case, I’m glad I\u00a0own a\u00a0WiiU.\u00a0 I may end up buying a PS4 or an Xbone (haha, Ex-Bone), but I’ll definitely be using that glorified DS of mine!<\/p>\n There was another game Nintendo showed that I seem to be forgetting…\u00a0 oh yeah!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Two Super Smash Bros. games, both of them starring this guy!<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n I’m not going to lie – I got a little misty-eyed when Mega Man was revealed as a playable character in both upcoming versions of Super Smash Bros<\/em>.\u00a0 It was like being brought back to my childhood, where I only wished I had a way to settle the “who would win in a fight” argument.\u00a0 I had a similar feeling when Sonic was announced for Brawl<\/em>, but this was an even more\u00a0amazing reveal.\u00a0 Mega Man definitely played a bigger role in my childhood than Sonic ever did!<\/p>\n The WiiU version is going to look fantastic,\u00a0whereas the 3DS version is\u00a0taking a slightly more artistic approach.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lookin’ good.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n The dark lines give it a cel-shaded look, which I like.\u00a0\u00a0They also serve a purpose,\u00a0making it a bit easier to see your character on the smaller screen.<\/p>\n As they did with Brawl<\/em>, Nintendo will be using the official Smash Bros<\/em> website to\u00a0release little bits and pieces of information.\u00a0 Doing that gave\u00a0fans that little extra incentive to wake up in the morning (not that we have no other reason to live, or anything), and the excitement for the game kept building and building.\u00a0 It was a fantastic idea, and I’m glad they’ve decided to do it again!<\/p>\n As a first “major announcement” (aside from the Mega Man thing), Nintendo revealed on the floor at E3 that the female WiiFit<\/em> instructor would be a playable character.\u00a0 At first, I thought “oh great, they just went and Microsofted themselves”…\u00a0 and then I saw this screen shot.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Nice try, Link.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n I’m not sure if she’s avoiding Link’s attack or simply reacting to getting hit, but it’s a friggin’ yoga pose!\u00a0 Every movement she makes is based on a pose of some kind.\u00a0 I don’t know about you, but I find that hilarious!<\/p>\n “Oh no!\u00a0 Mario fireball!\u00a0 *modified crescent lunge*<\/strong>\u00a0 Success!”<\/p>\n I can’t help but be incredibly excited for the future of gaming.\u00a0 I know the battle between Microsoft and Sony is bound to be nasty, but I really hope\u00a0it makes everyone (Nintendo included) up their ante a little bit.<\/p>\n In the next few days, I’ll be posting some of my favourite E3 memories…\u00a0 stay tuned!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’ve been wanting to justify me buying a WiiU for a while, now.
