Sega (Arcade)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, this is one of the few games on my countdown that I will probably never\u00a0own.\u00a0 I might be able to pick up an old\u00a0console here or there, and maybe a\u00a0cartridge or two that I remember playing at some point&#8230;\u00a0 but paying thousands for an arcade cabinet like this, then finding room to put it?\u00a0\u00a0That&#8217;s not entirely likely to happen any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>If you look at\u00a0video games as being part of one big family tree, arcade cabinets would be situated\u00a0at the very top as the family patriarch.\u00a0 If it weren&#8217;t for Nolan Bushnell and\u00a0Allan Alcorn putting that first coin-op\u00a0<em>Pong<\/em> machine in that bar all those years ago,\u00a0then reaping the benefits from all those quarters and bringing gaming to the masses,\u00a0who knows\u00a0how we&#8217;d be wasting our lives\u00a0these days!<\/p>\n<p>Then again, if that butterfly hadn&#8217;t farted in China all those years ago&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t go there.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, I&#8217;d see games like <em>Centipede<\/em> and <em>Galaga<\/em> at our local Co-Op store, but I barely paid them\u00a0any attention until after my introduction to home consoles.\u00a0 There were the <em>Contra<\/em> and <em>Arkanoid<\/em> cabinets next to the Village\u00a0grocery I mentioned, and\u00a0countless games that would have come and gone at the\u00a0Electronic Avenue arcades here in town (of which there were two).\u00a0 They\u00a0had the occasional great beat &#8217;em up, as well as\u00a0a few\u00a0interesting games\u00a0that\u00a0I couldn&#8217;t experience at home.\u00a0\u00a0Nothing\u00a0that really rocked my socks off, though.<\/p>\n<p>In grade 10, on the last day of school before exams and\u00a0Christmas break,\u00a0my friends and I\u00a0walked to the Fredericton Mall &#8211; not the Regent Mall, but a smaller\u00a0one located closer to\u00a0school.\u00a0 My friend Melissa was holding a party that night, my first such experience since I started high school.\u00a0 I was in the double-digit grades now, man!\u00a0 It was time for me to let loose, and&#8230;\u00a0 go to a party where there would be no liquor&#8230;\u00a0 not that I would have\u00a0had anything to drink, anyway&#8230;\u00a0 but still!\u00a0 It was gonna be a blast!<\/p>\n<p>There would also\u00a0be a few\u00a0girls there, so I was in for a night\u00a0with a wide array of\u00a0confusing emotions.<\/p>\n<p>First, it was time to down some quarters at the arcade, while we waited for her parents to pick us all up and head over\u00a0for the party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8fYRxiGovuc\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I saw this machine (the stand-up version, not the one with the seat), started playing it, and REALLY\u00a0got into\u00a0it&#8230; just as Mel&#8217;s parents\u00a0arrived to pick us up.\u00a0 Damn!\u00a0 Defeating the Empire\u00a0would have to wait, but I\u00a0would play the hell out of it whenever I got back to it.<\/p>\n<p>Every single time I went to the arcades, I started at the Battle of Yavin, then went to Hoth,\u00a0and finally made my way through to the Battle of Endor.\u00a0 I friggin&#8217;\u00a0<em>became <\/em>Luke Skywalker!\u00a0 I was going to go through all the movie battles\u00a0just\u00a0as he did &#8211; there was no way I was going through the levels out of order, just to get the &#8220;hard&#8221; ones out of the way early.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, some players did just\u00a0that!\u00a0 <em>Weaksauce<\/em>!\u00a0 The game&#8217;s not even that difficult, and I would often breeze through the entire\u00a0thing on one credit.<\/p>\n<p>There were two levels that I always had a rough time with, however.\u00a0 Thankfully, if you failed during either of the lightsaber battles (one against Boba Fett, and another with Darth Vader himself), you\u00a0could still continue\u00a0to the next stage.\u00a0 That was good, because as fun as those stages were, the controls could be a bit confusing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RED arrow points\u00a0to upper left corner for the block&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>&#8220;OK&#8230;\u00a0 I have to pull TOWARDS me and to the LEFT&#8230;\u00a0 block successful!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RED arrow points to upper left corner for the block, then GREEN to bottom right for the parry!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;OH CRAP<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>MY\u00a0HANDS HAVE TO DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT THE ARROWS ARE TELLING ME TO&#8211;aw, fail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of all the times I played it, only twice did I ever successfully\u00a0beat\u00a0both the Fett and Vader levels on the same playthrough.\u00a0 They were tough as hell, but the force feedback on the joystick felt so good and natural in my hands (*snicker*), I could play with it all day (*snicker, again*).\u00a0 Much fun was had!<\/p>\n<p>In the end, I daresay that Sega&#8217;s <em>Star Wars Trilogy Arcade<\/em> is one of the more immersive <em>Star Wars<\/em> games out there.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just a shame that it&#8217;s so damn short, and nowhere to be found anymore.\u00a0 Frowny face!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1848\" style=\"width: 507px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/coolstarwarsphotochewielovesleia1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1848\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1848\" title=\"coolstarwarsphotochewielovesleia[1]\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/coolstarwarsphotochewielovesleia1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/coolstarwarsphotochewielovesleia1.jpg 497w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/coolstarwarsphotochewielovesleia1-300x236.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1848\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There may have been some of this going on at Mel&#8217;s party.<br \/>I cannot confirm, nor deny.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
