Brawl"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1749\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Super-smash-bros-brawl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1749\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1749\" title=\"reply_card [Converted]\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Super-smash-bros-brawl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1126\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Super-smash-bros-brawl.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Super-smash-bros-brawl-213x300.jpg 213w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Super-smash-bros-brawl-727x1024.jpg 727w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2008 &#8211; Nintendo (Wii)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Remember what I mentioned about <em>Rockstar<\/em> slowly teasing information to the masses with the <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> games?\u00a0 They had evidently taken a page from Nintendo&#8217;s playbook, since they\u00a0did the exact same thing in Japan in 2001\u00a0before the release of <em>Super Smash Bros.<\/em> <em>Melee.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0Nintendo\u00a0ended up doing\u00a0it again\u00a0leading up\u00a0<em>Brawl<\/em>&#8216;s release in 2008;\u00a0new items, characters and stages were revealed daily on <em>Super Smash Bros. Dojo, <\/em>the series&#8217; official website.<\/p>\n<p>As time wore on and updates became more and more intriguing, it\u00a0was\u00a0obvious that this entry into the series would be the most epic one to date.\u00a0 How were they even\u00a0going to fit this much content onto one disc???\u00a0\u00a0Assist trophies, &#8220;Final Smash&#8221; moves, a level creator, online play, a new Subspace Emissary adventure, and tons of new characters &#8211; some from\u00a0Nintendo&#8217;s storied past, and some from way out in left field&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Were they even <em>allowed<\/em> to have some of these new characters in the game?<\/p>\n<p>If the first two games settled arguments over which Nintendo character would win in a fight, then the latest <em>Smash Bros. <\/em>game\u00a0took the argument\u00a0over into rival\u00a0territory.\u00a0 Sure, Mario had recently battled it out with Sonic\u00a0the Hedgehog in Beijing at the Olympics, but not quite like this.\u00a0 Fanboys on both sides of the fence could finally live out their fantasy of pounding the piss out of the mascots they\u00a0had loathed for so long.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t just Sonic joining the fray, however.<\/p>\n<p><em>Metal Gear<\/em> mastermind Hideo Kojima had always been a fan of Shigeru Miyamoto&#8217;s work, and had pleaded his case to Nintendo\u00a0to get the iconic Solid Snake character into <em>Super Smash Bros. Melee<\/em>.\u00a0 The game was already too far into development at that point, and the plan was shelved until work began on <em>Brawl<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Irp9qWkpQ-4\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a long time gamer who\u00a0had many childish arguments about the Sega vs. Nintendo rivalry, I was surprised to see that more excitement was generated by Snake&#8217;s official addition to the roster than there was for\u00a0Sonic&#8217;s.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if this was due to Sega&#8217;s\u00a0departure from making\u00a0consoles, or the over-abundance of bad <em>Sonic<\/em> games released in the last few years, but Snake&#8217;s inclusion was truly a surprise we didn&#8217;t see coming.<\/p>\n<p>So, about the game.\u00a0 It&#8217;s pretty darn-tootin&#8217; amazing.<\/p>\n<p>The Subspace Emissary is my favourite game mode, just because it has some great cutscenes and blends every character&#8217;s universe together in a convoluted (but hilarious) way.\u00a0 The single player is awesome, if only for the sheer number of characters in the tournament ladder.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a challenge mode with various character scenarios to conquer, and I&#8217;m pretty sure I still haven&#8217;t even played them all, there are so many.\u00a0 I even tried my hand at designing my own stage, but I could never duplicate the awesomeness of ones that were already in the game.<\/p>\n<p>The general complaint about the game was that the online\u00a0side of things\u00a0was\u00a0poorly executed.\u00a0 Like other Wii games,\u00a0playing with friends over the network was more of a hassle than it was really worth.\u00a0 Who wants to go through the process of adding a 12-digit code, waiting for your friend to stop playing long enough to do the same, only to meet up on one of the laggiest online servers you&#8217;ve ever played on?<\/p>\n<p>The real beauty of <em>Super Smash Bros.
