Capcom (Super NES, Game Boy Advance)\" width=\"640\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/MagicalQuest1BoxArt.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/MagicalQuest1BoxArt-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Capcom was really on it with their Disney games.\u00a0 Aside from <em>TailSpin<\/em>, I played and greatly enjoyed all of the NES Disney games released under the Capcom banner.\u00a0 From <em>Adventures in the Magic Kingdom <\/em>to <em>DuckTales <\/em>(and even <em>The Little Mermaid<\/em>), they knew exactly how to take a brand name and run with it.\u00a0 You know, like LJN did, just the opposite in terms of quality.<\/p>\n<p>By\u00a0the time the Super NES came around, I\u00a0had outgrown some of the cartoons Disney produced.\u00a0 <em>Aladdin <\/em>was the only animated movie of theirs that I showed interest in, since it had a cool setting, and Robin Williams was awesome as the Genie.\u00a0 There were two great (and very different) Super NES and Genesis games based on the movie, and I enjoyed them both tremendously.\u00a0 Aside from that, though, the house of Mickey\u00a0had been\u00a0dead to me for a while at that point.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the subject matter, though, Capcom still knew how to crank out a great game.\u00a0 With <em>Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse<\/em>, they did just that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FYCvSbm1Y50\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although the game was an absolute masterpiece, it actually\u00a0reminds me more\u00a0of the 44th issue of\u00a0<em>Nintendo Power, <\/em>which was their 1993 New Year&#8217;s\u00a0issue.\u00a0 Aside from having the game on the cover, it was jam-packed with content, including\u00a0a <em>Mario Paint <\/em>stamp guide, <em>Star Fox <\/em>paper plane cutouts, and best of all, a 16-page <em>Mega Man <\/em>spectacular!<\/p>\n<p>I believe the Angry Video Game Nerd touched on that a bit in his <em>Nintendo Power <\/em>tribute episode&#8230;\u00a0 it was amazing.\u00a0 But, I digress.\u00a0 Back to the game!<\/p>\n<p>Mickey, Goofy and Donald Duck\u00a0are playing catch in\u00a0the park\u00a0one day when Pluto goes to fetch an errant ball.\u00a0 When\u00a0he doesn&#8217;t come back right away, the group of friends find that the faithful companion has gone missing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s up to the titular hero to brave the elements, and\u00a0save his best buddy from the evil\u00a0Emperor Pete.<\/p>\n<p>I guess\u00a0Pete was just hanging around in\u00a0the bushes, just waiting for his moment to pounce on\u00a0poor Pluto.\u00a0 What a bastard!<\/p>\n<p><em>Magical Quest <\/em>plays like\u00a0a\u00a0basic\u00a0platformer for the first little bit.\u00a0 Mickey can pick up items and toss them at foes, or\u00a0jump and stomp on them for a quick kill.\u00a0 In the levels that follow, Mickey gains\u00a0a few\u00a0abilities that really\u00a0change the way you play the game.\u00a0\u00a0A magician&#8217;s uniform allows him to charge and shoot magic (a nice little nod to <em>Mega Man<\/em> <em>4<\/em>&#8216;s Mega Buster), a fireman&#8217;s outfit gives him a hose to shoot water with, and mountain-climbing gear gives him a grappling hook, \u00e0 la <em>Bionic Commando<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The levels never get tiresome and offer lots of variety, and the game offers a nice, fun\u00a0challenge.\u00a0 The graphics look great, and take on a style much more vivid and artistically interesting than\u00a0Sony Imagesoft&#8217;s <em>Mickey Mania, <\/em>a massively hyped game released a few years later to coincide with Mickey&#8217;s anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>I never owned this game, so aside from the magazine, my memories of this one are pretty limited.\u00a0 I&#8217;m definitely hoping to find a copy of it soon!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1647\" style=\"width: 359px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/NintendoPower44.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1647\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1647\" title=\"NintendoPower44\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/NintendoPower44.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/NintendoPower44.jpg 349w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/NintendoPower44-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Best. Issue.
