Melee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1133\" style=\"width: 583px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Super-smash-bros-melee-GBC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1133\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1133\" title=\"Super-smash-bros-melee-GBC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Super-smash-bros-melee-GBC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Super-smash-bros-melee-GBC.jpg 573w, http:\/\/www.controlpadblues.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Super-smash-bros-melee-GBC-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 573px) 100vw, 573px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2001 &#8211; Nintendo (GameCube)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Back in the late 90&#8217;s, I was lucky enough to have access to a satellite dish with American programming.\u00a0 I was able to watch shows most of my classmates didn&#8217;t even know existed,\u00a0thanks to having channels that weren&#8217;t available north of the border.\u00a0 ZDTV was one such channel, focusing on technology and all the latest gadgets and computer goodies.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, they had a few gaming shows to go along with that.\u00a0 <em>GameSpot TV <\/em>was\u00a0the main one, and it had all the latest news from all gaming fronts &#8211; including what was happening in Japan.\u00a0 One episode highlighted this crazy-looking N64\u00a0game with well-known Nintendo characters &#8211; the &#8220;all-stars&#8221;, from what little I could distinguish, there was so much going on on the screen &#8211; and they were fighting??\u00a0 Donkey Kong beating the piss out of Pikachu&#8230;\u00a0 imagine that.<\/p>\n<p>I excitedly told my friends all about it, and when <em>Super Smash Bros. <\/em>was released in North America\u00a0a few months later, we played it a ton at our Halloween party that year.\u00a0 We played it at other gatherings too, but at those parties, great times were had.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vh48TKldggA\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first game was nice, but it wasn&#8217;t exactly the kind of game I&#8217;d spend tons of hours on.\u00a0 I wanted more unlockables, more characters, more levels, more references to obscure Nintendo titles&#8230;\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t have to wait that long, really.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo&#8217;s GameCube launched Mario-less in November of 2001, but <em>Luigi&#8217;s Mansion <\/em>and <em>Super Smash Bros.
