1992 – Capcom (Super NES)<\/p><\/div>\n

Growing up, it seemed like there was always two of something, and a person always had to be on one side of the fence.\u00a0 In baseball, there were the American and National Leagues.\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a0New Brunswick\u00a0politics, there was the blue party and there was the red party.\u00a0 In video games, you had Sega vs. Nintendo, and in the\u00a0mid 90’s, it was all about Mortal Kombat <\/em>vs. Street Fighter II<\/em>.<\/p>\n

SFII <\/em>came first, so I got to know Guile, Ryu, Blanka, and E. Honda pretty well before I ever heard mention of Scorpion or Sub-Zero.\u00a0 When I’d rent the Super NES version, I didn’t really have a favourite fighter, and I\u00a0tried to use a variety of them as I climbed up the game’s competitive ladder.\u00a0 Once you beat the cast of regulars, four more\u00a0tough competitors were up next.<\/p>\n

If you buy a fighting game these days, and the “boss” characters are playable from the get-go, you don’t really think twice about it.\u00a0 It’s almost\u00a0expected!\u00a0\u00a0Street Fighter II<\/em> had\u00a0four bosses\u00a0– Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M. Bison – all with unique attributes that made them challenging in their own right, and you couldn’t play\u00a0AS\u00a0any of them.\u00a0 Not even with cheats!\u00a0 How badass must they be, if Capcom doesn’t even think we’d be able to handle them?<\/p>\n
